Arrival in Cambridge
The closest airport to Cambridge is London Stansted.
The city is also well connected with London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.
NationalExpress run regular coach services between each airport and the city centre (arriving at Parker’s Piece). Tickets for all of these services can be booked online: goo.gl/b1fdWs
Parker’s Piece bus stop is then only a short walk away from speakers’ accommodation at Downing College.
Alternatively, there are regular rail connections from all of these airports to Cambridge, and tickets can be purchased via National Rail: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk
Please note that there is a direct service only between Stansted and Cambridge; travel from other airports will require connections in London city centre.
Travel within Cambridge
From the railway station, the services Citi 1, Citi 3, Citi 7, and Citi 8 run regularly to the centre of town. There is a bus stop directly opposite the gates to Downing College (ask the driver).
The University Whippet bus service ‘U’ connects the station, Sidgwick Avenue, and Madingley Road (near Churchill College).
There are taxi ranks both at the railway station, and in the centre of town on St Andrew’s Street. A journey between the station and the centre of town, or between town and Churchill college is typically £8-9.
Downing College and the Faculty of Classics are within walking distance, and the journey is c. 15-20 minutes depending on walking speed. Churchill College is approximately 30-40 minutes from Downing College by foot.
